Diode Laser Treatment in Orthodontics
Diode laser therapy offers many advantages for patients undergoing orthodontic care. Using a specialized diode laser, Dr. Wiggins and Dr. Boswell can gently and precisely remove excess gum tissue to reveal more of the tooth’s surface, enhancing both appearance and function. Because your gums act as the “frame” for your teeth, carefully reshaping them can significantly improve the balance and beauty of your smile.
One of the best parts? In most cases, there’s no need for injections. We simply apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area so you’ll only feel the gentle motion of the laser tip.
Ideal Bracket Placement
When gum tissue hasn’t receded as expected, or when a tooth is taking longer to erupt, the laser can remove just enough tissue to allow for proper bracket placement. This same approach can also be used when placing Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) as an alternative to headgear.
Assisting with Impacted Teeth
An impacted tooth is one that hasn’t erupted fully through the gums. Laser treatment can help speed the process by creating a small opening, allowing the tooth to emerge without waiting months or requiring a more costly surgical procedure.
Aesthetic Gum Recontouring
After your braces are removed, Dr. Wiggins and Dr. Boswell may recommend reshaping your gum line for the most attractive result. Aesthetic gingival recontouring removes excess tissue and can make teeth appear longer. If the gum line is uneven, the laser can also sculpt it into a more symmetrical, balanced shape, helping you achieve your best smile.
